Project summary

This project was about contributing to the WordPress translation platform by translating the Elementor Website Builder plugin into Spanish (Costa Rica). I chose the es_CR locale because it had few active contributors and thousands of untranslated strings. My original goal was simply to meet the minimum required contributions, but I ended up contributing far beyond that because the work felt genuinely meaningful.

Results obtained

• Hundreds of strings translated for the Elementor Website Builder plugin
• Multiple translations reviewed and approved into the stable release
• Active participation in the es_CR locale, helping reduce its backlog of untranslated strings

What I learned

I learned that translating software is much more than converting words between languages. It requires attention to context, consistency with a shared glossary, and careful handling of technical details such as placeholder variables and HTML tags. On a personal level, I discovered that steady, consistent contributions add up to a real impact, and that being part of an open-source community is both motivating and rewarding.

Final reflection

This project changed how I see my role in the WordPress community. What started as an assignment turned into something I care about, and I now feel like a genuine contributor rather than just a user. To anyone considering a similar contribution, I would say: start small, read the glossary, and do not be afraid to go beyond the minimum. The sense of accomplishment and the value you create for others make it well worth the effort.
