I learned how software localization actually works, from managing variables and HTML tags to keeping terminology consistent with a shared glossary. I now understand why context matters so much and how a single mistranslation can change the meaning of an interface.

Personal lessons

Beyond the technical side, I learned the value of patience and steady progress. Seeing my translations get reviewed and approved was motivating, and it showed me how small, consistent contributions add up to a meaningful impact on an open-source community.

What I would do differently

If I started again, I would spend more time reading the glossary and existing translations before diving in, which would have saved me from a few early corrections. I would also engage with the community sooner to ask questions.
